Great CDs, book not so hot - For the price this is a superb course. What I really like about it is that there is no English at all on the CDs, so if you like to immerse yourself in the language this course is ideal.My edition consist of 4 audio Cds and a black & white text book. The text book has all the stuff from the cds with literal translations & some grammar points.

Learn to speak Spanish in a month - This is an excellent choice and unbeatable value for money. You can listen to the CDs over and over in the car, for example, and review what you ve been saying from the book afterwards to clarify any points - unlike other similar, much more expensive courses where you must sit with the book open whilst listening to the CD. I learned to get by in Spanish in about a month from using this course.

Poor subediting cost a star - I agree with reviewer pepivorlitski. For a very few pounds I bought this Plain Jane publication (with its 4 CDs) which is five times as useful as the much dearer, trendy, but infantile glossy A4 book I was obliged to buy for my adult evening course in Spanish. But the previous reviewer did not mention that this is an all too hasty translation of a French publication, littered throughout with typos and paste-up errors. The cover claims that it contains an illustrated work book, and there are a few cross-references to it within the text, but so few that I suppose it was not eventually included with the English edition? Supplement to learning Spanish in class gets my vote! - Fed up of these modern class textbooks with nothing but pretty photos and no apparent structure for those of us over the age of four to rely on? Nice, clear black and white pages, with great explanations and exercises. And grammar clearly laid out. My favourite feature - written translations are roughly word for word, which helps you to understand the structure of the language. Thumbs up! (Wish they wouldn t write CD s on the cover though... doesn t anyone know how to use apostrophes...?) ,)
